AIGA Community Projects
Postcard & Playing Card
In 2021, I worked with AIGA and local artists to bring two community projects to life.
The first one is the Collection of Postcards to celebrate African Americans' history in Wichita, KS. Each card is designed by a different artist, highlighting a famous person or place that celebrates African American history and achievement.
The second project was a deck of cards. A different local artist designed each card. Every artist was required to use the same color scheme. Other than that, the design was whatever the artist decided to do.
A Reality
Dunbar Postcard
I picked the Dunbar Theater which was the first theater Black people could go and enjoy a good show or a movie. It became a place to gather and inspire for the black community in Wichita.
Eight of Clubs Playing Card
As mention above the only design restriction for the playing card was the color scheme. So I came up with idea to do the Clover Club cocktail.
The idea came to me because the shape of clubs makes me think of clovers, and shamrocks. In my research I discover the Clover Club cocktail, I thought it fit perfectly with my card. So that became my design.
